Honky Tonk Angels

Honky Tonk Angels Musical by First Impressions Theatre

Honky Tonk Angels

November 9-25 2017

Poorly behaving males — those who come home a’drinkin’, who’ve been a’messin’ where they shouldn’t have been a’messin’, those inclined to bring their barroom habits home to mama — are the uber-text of much of the great country music recorded by such woman as Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and that angel on this green earth, Dolly Parton.

Songs of defiance thus form much of the content of Honky Tonk Angels, the toe-tapping, laugh a minute country music celebration of women and their power to survive, dream and downright overcome!

First Impressions Theatre’s production of Honky Tonk Angels will be a welcome chance to hear this repertory, up close and real personal!

This production, directed with heart by Claude Giroux and Alishia Suitor, with outstanding musical direction by Gordon Roberts, is cast exceptionally well. These three “ladies of country” create a welcoming embrace for everyone without compromising the defiance and self-actualization heard in the lyrics of these songs.

It’s an intimate three-person, 31 song, musical celebration of the country-western genre, more than enough to keep audience members clapping and singing along all through the night.

End Of The Rainbow

End of the Rainbow

A play with music by Peter Quilter
Directed by Claude A. Giroux

“A don’t miss theatre event!”

Starring Janet Gigliotti as Judy Garland

There are moments in the theatre when you lean forward in your seat with shivers down your spine and realize there is nowhere on earth you’d rather be!
Electrifying, intense and real, this production will leave you breathless. End of The Rainbow is a true account of the last “comeback” of Judy Garland at the twilight of her career and as it turns out, her all too short life, and it’s revealing in a way seldom found in the tabloids. See that perilous bipolar energy that so often animates great performers. Touch this woman at your own risk. She burns … every chapter of Garland’s history is alive; she is foul mouthed, flirtatious, erotic, childlike, unedited, manipulative and supremely self-conscious as she makes love and war with her lovers and keepers. Judy has a strong sense of herself as a human tragedy on a world stage, but her sense of humour, of the absurdity of it all is just as sharp and appallingly funny … and then … she sings. And all those disparate elements coalesce into a coherent riveting whole … Sometimes!

"A true account of the twilight of an all too mortal goddess, Judy Garland, on the eve of her destruction."

The western Canadian premiere for community theatre, this delightful play tells the story of a very successful, but cantankerous novelist who suddenly discovers that he knows nothing about his maid of 28 years. She, on the other hand, knows absolutely everything about him! He makes it his mission to learn all he can about her in a most engaging conversation. With revelations that are surprising, funny and extremely moving, this is a love story, a social commentary and a mystery wrapped in witty dialogue and vivid imagery.
