American abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko has been commissioned to create murals for the posh Four Seasons restaurant in New York, the year is 1958. It is the biggest commission in the history of modern art. Rothko and his new young assistant, Ken, are hard at work on the project. The brash Rothko, keeps Ken on his guard with peppered questions and observations leading to spirited conversations. “There is only one thing I fear in life, my friend … one day the black will swallow the red.”
